Dago Benavidez
was born in Lockney, a small town located on the South Plains of
Texas between Lubbock and Amerilllo. He spent his childhood in Corpus
Christi, McAllen and Edinburgh in Texas. He moved to Salem Oregon
with his 7 brothers and sisters at age 11.
"My
Tejano roots are as strong as the aroma of the orange blossom in
the spring."
 |
..."the
plains of South Texas look so idealistic and surreal when you
see them with their beautiful mantel of colorful wild flowers"... |
"I
want the viewer to sense a feeling of calm and peacefulness when
they see some of my paintings. I like to work a lot with night
scenes and use deep blues which evoke to me those feelings. The
Moon is a constant in my paintings in recognition for the inspiration
and the creative impulse I get from her."
Dago lives
today in Salem, Oregon and is an active member of the Latino Community.
He works as a Child Volunteer Advocate with the CASA (Court Appointed
Special Advocate) program of Marion County, and as a mediator
for Neighbor to Neighbor.
